About Tony WoodmanAfter a career in Engineering, both in the U.K. and Africa, Tony Woodman has returned to his native country-Wales. He is now designing and manufacturing original pieces of furniture in steel. He has a workshop and showroom which are situated in the grounds of his home in Pembrokeshire. Tony has 25 years experience in the field of mechanical engineering, mainly self-employed. He has worked on projects as varied as copper smelter maintenance in Zambia and Iran and overhauling turbines in electrical power stations. He has manufactured and installed manipulators in foundries for British Leyland and Ford and built and managed a bar and restaurant in West Africa. Whilst working as the logistics manager for an export company in The Gambia, Tony bought a sunken steel barge, raised and repaired it, converting it into his family home on the River Gambia. As a pastime, he experimented with steel sculpture. Tony is now combining past work experience with his creative skills in his new venture. He enjoys the challenge of combining his knowledge of stress, structures and practical fabrication to realise his creative ideas and designs. He aims to produce high quality furniture with fluid lines, which is both pleasing to the eye and functional. Each piece is finished to the highest standard. "Kinetikos" and the chief's chair are examples of how Tony can create a new concept from an old idea, giving it a fresh dimension. Having worked with steel throughout his career, it became his natural choice of medium. It can be manipulated to almost any shape. It is strong and durable with an indefinite life span. The furniture is powder-painted to give a smooth and even finish, which is strong and hard wearing and a wide range of colours are available. |
